In the Canton of Bern, a silent election of Flavia Wasserfallen (SP) and Werner Salzmann (SVP) to the Council of States is coming into view. This is contingent on the candidates from the FDP and the Greens withdrawing. On Monday morning, according to information from the news agency Keystone-SDA, talks were underway to decide who would take the third and fourth places in the first round of voting. Bernhard Pulver (Green) and Sandra Hess (FDP) had placed third and fourth respectively. On Monday, three more candidates who would have been eligible for the runoff election withdrew: Jürg Grossen (GLP), Lorenz Hess (Mitte) and Marc Jost (EVP). They announced this on the news service X (formerly Twitter). National Councillor Lorenz Hess is clear that the second round of voting should be avoided. There is nothing more to be gained from it, he said in an interview with the news agency Keystone-SDA. If the runoff election, which was already leading to the election of Wasserfallen and Salzmann, is eliminated, the canton of Bern can save costs. ©Keystone/SDA
