Six of the eleven particularly protected and endangered cultural landscapes of Switzerland are directly dependent on hydrological conditions. Long periods of drought and soil overheating lead to changes in flora and fauna and thus to restrictions in agricultural use. Wildheulandschaften, Moorlandschaften, Wiesenwässerungslandschaften, Hangberieselungslandschaften and Alleenlandschaften are all at risk of being lost due to water scarcity. To prevent the loss of these landscapes, targeted measures such as water retention and storage are needed. This can be achieved by setting up so-called sponge landscapes, which can quickly absorb and store water instead of just channeling and draining it.nnnnnnnnnn
