Since Christmas, six planned World Health Organization (WHO) convoys to support hospitals in the Gaza Strip have failed. There was a lack of security assurances, reported WHO head Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus in Geneva on Wednesday. "We appeal to Israel to approve the requests of the WHO and our partners for the distribution of humanitarian aid," said Tedros.

The next convoy is planned for Thursday, said the WHO representative for the Palestinian territories, Rik Peeperkorn. The WHO hopes that the necessary permits will be received in time. He criticized the complicated process for obtaining such transit permits. This delays urgently needed deliveries. Without safety guarantees, the trucks would not be able to travel. They are intended to supply hospitals in the north of the Gaza Strip with medicines and other medical supplies. According to Peeperkorn, there are still 300,000 to 400,000 people in the north.
