A ski tourer found in St. Antönien GR after a search operation has died. According to a statement, the 62-year-old Austrian had been missing since Monday morning. When he was found on Tuesday morning, he was already suffering from severe hypothermia.

Under constant resuscitation, the 62-year-old was flown to hospital by helicopter. However, only his death could be determined there, as the cantonal police of Graubünden wrote in a statement on Wednesday morning.

The man had set off on a ski tour to the St. Antönierjoch in Gargellen (A) on Sunday. The last telephone contact between him and a relative had been on Monday morning. However, the contact was abruptly broken off and the man could no longer be reached.

A transnational search operation was therefore launched on Monday afternoon. Several members of the Austrian Mountain Rescue Service and the Swiss Alpine Club SAC, an Austrian and two Swiss rescue helicopters were involved in the search operation. In addition, several alpine police officers from the Vorarlberg state police directorate and the Graubünden cantonal police as well as other emergency services searched for the ski tourer on the high plateau.
