Snowboarder dies under an avalanche in Arosa GR

A snowboarder was buried by an avalanche in Arosa GR on Monday. The 26-year-old died at the scene of the accident, as the Graubünden cantonal police reported on Tuesday.
The woman was accompanied by another snow sports enthusiast on a closed piste at 1.15 p.m., according to the press release. As they left the closed piste, the woman was caught in an avalanche on a slope.
Her companion notified the rescue services and set off in search of the buried victim. She was located at around 3.30 p.m. and finally rescued from the masses of snow. According to the cantonal police, the resuscitation later had to be aborted on the avalanche field without success.
Rescuers from the Swiss Alpine Club (SAC) as well as avalanche search dogs, Rega, employees of the Arosa Lenzerheide mountain railroads and members of the Alpine police were deployed. The Graubünden public prosecutor's office has started an investigation together with the cantonal police.
