In 2023, the social welfare rate in Switzerland fell to 2.8 percent. This is the lowest measured value since the introduction of social welfare recipient statistics in 2005, as reported by the Federal Statistical Office on Monday.
Compared to the previous year, the social assistance rate fell by 0.1 percentage points. This corresponds to 7,100 fewer people who are dependent on social assistance, wrote the Federal Statistical Office (FSO). In 2023, a total of almost 250,000 people received a financial benefit from economic social assistance at least once.
One explanation for the downward trend is the good labor market situation in 2023, according to the press release on social welfare statistics.
