A 25-year-old man is due to appear before the Basel-Landschaft Criminal Court in Muttenz on Thursday. He is accused of shooting his father dead in Lampenberg BL in December 2021. The public prosecutor's office is charging him with murder, among other things.
In the family home, the young man is said to have shot his father with a pistol. This was done "knowingly and deliberately" with the intention of killing him, according to the indictment. The father lay seriously injured on the ground. 15 minutes later, the son fired a second shot to the head at close range at the defenceless injured man, who died on the spot, according to the public prosecutor's office.
An argument had previously broken out at the family table. The son accused his father of wanting to poison him with his dinner. According to the indictment, he also threatened the mother and sister with his pistol.
Several unauthorized weapons found in the house
Two days earlier, at Christmas, the son had already taken up arms. After a verbal argument in the family, he hit his parents with a flashlight and the barrel of a gun and pointed the pistol at all three family members. When they hid the weapons from him, he threatened to commit suicide, according to reports.
During the house search after the night of the crime, four firearms were found for which the accused did not even have a purchase license. The public prosecutor's office seized a further 16 weapons that would have been subject to registration.
The accused is currently in the University Psychiatric Clinics Basel. The presumption of innocence applies.
