At their general meeting in Murten FR on Saturday, the SP Women Switzerland launched the resolution "For comprehensive and effective protection of people affected by violence" as the focus for the upcoming legislative period. They also adopted the No slogans for the rental law proposals on November 24.

The state must invest in equality, explained Co-President and National Councillor Tamara Funiciello (BE) according to the party's communiqué. Gender-based violent crime has been on the rise since the noughties. The sad tip of the iceberg are the already twelve femicides in 2024.

Switzerland must find the money and offer the necessary support for adequate victim protection. According to the SP women, Funiciello was referring to the lack of shelters and the lack of funding for victim support and advice centers.

In their resolution, the SP women called on the federal government and cantons to make support services known to the entire population and to ensure access to them. Victims of domestic, sexualized and gender-based violence should receive protection and support. A national demonstration on the demands is planned for November 23.

In addition to the No to the occupational pension reform, the SP Women are campaigning for a Yes to the biodiversity initiative in the federal vote on September 22.

In view of the referendum on November 24, they recommend rejecting the two tenancy law proposals. Any "attack by the real estate lobby on tenancy law" should be rejected, the party wrote.
