The Swiss Broadcasting Corporation (SRG) will appoint the successor to Director General Gilles Marchand on Saturday. The extraordinary meeting of delegates will take place in Bern. The favorite for the job so far has been SRF Head of Culture Susanne Wille.

In the morning, the nine-member Board of Directors under Chairman Jean-Michel Cina will meet first, SRG announced in advance. The selection of candidates will then be presented to the 41 delegates with a table presentation. They will then elect the successor. The Assembly of Delegates is the supreme organ of the SRG. The SRG will then hold a media conference to provide information on the appointment.

According to the media, the procedure caused displeasure among certain delegates in the run-up to the meeting. They had hardly any time to examine the personnel issue in detail, it was said. Some delegates spoke of a "farce" and an "alibi exercise." SRG announced in advance that this was the usual procedure for a personnel matter of this kind.

In the media, 50-year-old SRF Head of Culture Susanne Wille was named as the most promising candidate. A co-leadership would also be possible. The names of SRG Executive Board member Bakel Walden and CH Media Editor-in-Chief Patrik Müller were also circulated at times as possible candidates. However, they announced that they would not be running.

SRG Director General Marchand, who has been in office since 2017, announced in mid-January that he would be taking early retirement by the beginning of 2025 at the latest. The media company wants to prepare itself for the media policy discussions of the coming years with a new top management team. In addition to the initiative to halve fees, these include the negotiations on new concessions in 2027 and their decision by 2028.
