The former executive banker appeared before the St. Gallen Cantonal Court on Wednesday to appeal the first instance verdict of seven years in prison. He is accused of deceiving people and financing his luxurious lifestyle with their money. The accused tried to defend himself by claiming that it was not his idea. He appeared eloquent and stated that his salary as a banker had quickly risen to a very good level of 30,000 francs per month, but it was not enough to finance his lavish lifestyle. He admitted to making mistakes, but denied the accusation of having embezzled a total of 4.8 million francs. He tried to justify himself by saying that he had mixed his own money with the money entrusted to him. The judge said: "That sounds like an excuse to me."
