The public prosecutor's office of the Canton of St. Gallen has opened an investigation into three people following a fatal accident in the Atzmännig parking lot. The person responsible for the accident is charged with intentional homicide. The 20-year-old drove away from the scene of the accident and left his dying passenger behind.
The St. Gallen public prosecutor's office confirmed a corresponding report by "Züri Today". According to the report, criminal proceedings were opened against two other people for abetting and failing to provide emergency assistance. They are accused of having protected the person who caused the accident from prosecution.
Passenger died in hospital
The accident occurred on January 18 when the young driver lost control of his car while drifting on the snow-covered Atzmännig parking lot. The vehicle spun 180 degrees and slid ten meters down the hill. It finally came to rest on its roof in the Goldingerbach stream.
The 20-year-old driver climbed out of the car and left the scene of the accident. He left his 24-year-old colleague behind in the vehicle. A third party reported the incident to the police.
The emergency services finally freed the 24-year-old passenger from the car lying in the water and took him to hospital in a critical condition, where he died a short time later.
The fugitive 20-year-old later contacted the police by telephone, according to the police report at the time.
