Survey: European elections are almost as important as Bundestag elections

According to a survey, the European Parliament elections are almost as important to voters in Germany as the Bundestag elections. In the latest survey by the opinion research institute YouGov, 22% of the almost 2,300 respondents rated the European elections as more important than the Bundestag elections. In contrast, 24 percent consider the German parliamentary elections to be more important. 43% attach the same importance to both elections.
Compared to the state parliament elections, the European elections are perceived as slightly more important. 22% think they are more important, while 21% rate the state parliament elections as more important. 46% say that both elections are equally important.
27% also consider the European elections to be more important than local elections. In contrast, 23% attach greater importance to elections in cities and districts. 39% consider both to be equally important.
The next European elections will take place on June 9. This weekend, the SPD, FDP and the Sahra Wagenknecht alliance will choose their top candidates.
