Suspect in Basel homicide had already committed murder before

The suspect in Thursday's homicide in Basel had already killed two women in the same neighborhood in 2014. This was confirmed by the Basel public prosecutor's office on Friday at the request of the Keystone-SDA news agency.
The suspect was an inpatient at the psychiatric clinic in Basel. He had already killed two women and seriously injured another man in the same neighborhood in 2014. This was confirmed by Martin Schütz, spokesman for the public prosecutor's office, at the request of Keystone-SDA. The "Basler Zeitung" had previously reported on this.
In September 2015, the criminal court in Basel ordered inpatient psychiatric treatment for the mentally ill man. It found that the mentally incompetent offender had committed multiple murder and attempted murder.
On Thursday, a 75-year-old woman was killed in an apartment building on Nasenweg in Basel's Breite district. The police cordoned off the area around the crime scene.
As the "Basler Zeitung" wrote, the suspect had an "unaccompanied release" on Thursday. The University Hospitals of Basel did not wish to comment when asked by the Keystone-SDA news agency.
