The SVP is backing the BVG reform. At the delegates' meeting in Leuk VS on Saturday, the People's Party adopted the Yes slogan by a large majority.
"This bill is a well-balanced compromise," said Aargau National Councillor Andreas Glarner. Some delegates, however, criticized the reform as too complex and did not support it. 174 of the delegates present voted in favor of supporting the proposal, 37 against. 16 delegates abstained.
"As we are drawing benefits for longer and longer, it is imperative that we reduce the conversion rate," said Glarner. 85% of employees are not affected by the reduction in the conversion rate. However, 359,000 people would receive a higher pension as a result, and 100,000 incomes would be additionally insured.
In addition, the adjustment of wage contributions according to age contained in the bill would benefit older employees. "This significantly increases the opportunities for older employees on the labor market. A 65-year-old employee will be just as expensive as a 45-year-old today."
Pierre-Yves Maillard, SP member of the Council of States and top trade unionist, also gave a speech at the SVP delegates' meeting. "The men and women in our country who are about to retire have paid a lot over forty-five, sometimes fifty years of work and have done a lot for our country. Thanks to this generation, the pension funds have accumulated around CHF 150 billion in reserves," said Maillard. "We cannot now cut their retirement benefits as well."
