In an interview, SVP President Marcel Dettling sharply criticized Migration Minister Beat Jans for his package of measures on immigration. "Jans is relying on Germany instead of doing his job," Dettling told Blick.

"Jans has the feeling that 25,000 asylum seekers a year are not a problem. The people on the outside have to pay for this misjudgement." In the coming week, the SVP wants to make its demands clear to the migration minister once again. "We will show him what problems the cantons and municipalities are facing," explained Dettling. "The Federal Council is refusing to tackle immigration directly."

After the No to the freeway initiative, the SVP leader was also self-critical and admitted that the mobilization of the middle-class base had failed. "In contrast to the left, we were unable to fully mobilize our base in these votes. That gives me pause for thought."

Dettling went on to criticize the fact that there was money for everything but the country's own citizens. "People have had enough of us having to build up the whole of Switzerland because of immigration." In order to be more successful in future, he called for a more determined approach from the conservative parties: "We conservatives have the power in parliament to make progress here."
