Swiss CEO Dieter Vranckx expects the recent strong growth to slow down in the near future. "After the coronavirus crisis, we had to prepare for a return to normality," he said in an interview with the French-speaking Swiss business newspaper "L'Agéfi" (issue 05.06.).

Capacities will be increased by 50% in 2022 and by more than a third in 2023. "We are expecting a further 10% increase in capacity this year. In the long-haul segment, pre-pandemic capacities will even be exceeded this year," says Vranckx.

A phase of consolidation and lower growth rates are now to be expected. Swiss must prepare for this. This does not mean that Swiss will no longer hire people, but that it will be more cautious. "The pace of recruitment will slow down over the next few years," said Vranckx, who will soon be leaving for Lufthansa headquarters.

He also confirmed his expectations that flying will cost more in the future. "In view of the upcoming investments, for example in the renewal of the fleet or in synthetic fuels, I believe that prices will rise in the medium to long term."
