The Swiss Eugster family denies having increased its stake in Austrian billionaire René Benko's troubled real estate group Signa. "This report spread in various media (...) is false," wrote a spokesperson on Tuesday afternoon in response to an inquiry from the news agency AWP.

"The Eugster family's shares are unchanged. It is correct that the Eugster family's shares were held in trust by "Familie Benko 2017 Zwei GmbH". This trusteeship has now been dissolved and the shares transferred to Eugster/Frismag AG and AE Familienholding AG. This dissolution of the trusteeship published today in the Official Gazette was misinterpreted by a media outlet and led to this false report," the spokesperson continued.

Behind Eugster/Frismag, based in Amriswil (TG), is a manufacturer of coffee machines for brands such as Jura, Melitta and Miele, founded by entrepreneur Arthur Eugster, which employs around 3,000 people according to Bilanz. AE Familienholding AG is also part of the Eugster family.

According to "Bilanz", Arthur Eugster is one of the 300 richest Swiss. The magazine estimates his wealth at between CHF 600 and 700 million.

The Swiss investor family was already considered to be involved, but according to media reports, their voting rights were represented in trust by Signa founder Rene Benko until recently. Signa has not yet responded to an inquiry from the APA news agency.
