Well-known Swiss companies are relying on start-ups to improve their processes. After an eleven-week kick-start program in Zurich, they have concluded over 30 deals with young companies.
Participants in the program include Axa, Coop, Swisscom, Mobiliar, Postfinance, Sanitas, Ikea Switzerland and Romande Energie, as Kickstart announced on Wednesday. The start-ups will develop digitalization, automation and translation solutions for them, for example.
Over CHF 245 million was mobilized as part of the innovation programme. A total of 41 start-ups from over 48 countries applied for a partnership.
A number of partnerships have also been established in the area of sustainability. For example, Coop is now working with the Swiss upcycling start-ups Upgrain and Proseed to keep food waste in circulation.
The US start-up Ryp Labs also aims to extend the shelf life of fruit and vegetables, and the Lausanne start-up B'Zeos is testing alternatives to plastic packaging made from algae. "Sustainability is in our DNA and focusing on new customer trends is essential for us," Adrian Giger, Project Manager Corporate Development at Coop, is quoted as saying in the press release.
Kickstart is a spin-off of Impact Hub Zurich and was launched by Digitalswitzerland in 2015. The platform has been bringing start-ups together with established companies every year since 2016. Start-ups such as Planted and Neustark have already been networked with customers.
