Swiss aircraft were once again very well utilized over the festive period. A total of 547,000 passengers flew with Swiss between December 22 and January 2, as the company announced on Thursday. In the same period a year ago, Swiss had 468,000 passengers.
Despite adverse weather conditions at some airports and staff absences due to illness, Swiss reliably transported its passengers to their destinations, the press release continued. In terms of flight schedule stability, a value of 98.5 percent was achieved, compared to 99.4 percent in the previous year.
The flight schedule stability describes the proportion of flights that Swiss was able to operate as offered, albeit sometimes with delays. "I am very pleased that we were almost always able to keep to the flight schedule during the busy Christmas period," said Oliver Buchhofer, Head of Operations, according to the press release.
However, there have also been delays and a total of 58 canceled flights over the last two weeks, according to the statement. The airline was particularly challenged by the adverse weather with storms, frost and snow. The cold and flu epidemic also had a negative impact on operations.
According to the figures, around 17 percent of Swiss flights arrived at their destination more than 30 minutes late over the festive period. Meanwhile, at around 58 percent, more than half of flights took off on time, i.e. no more than a quarter of an hour later than planned.
