The Swiss parahotel industry has had a mixed winter with difficult snow conditions. However, the booking and reservation figures for the summer indicate a high occupancy rate.

A good start to the winter was followed by phases of volatile snow conditions, as the IG Parahotellerie Schweiz reported on Thursday. The warm March also contributed to the winter season falling short of expectations.

Meanwhile, the results of the five member companies BnB Switzerland, Interhome, Reka, Swiss Youth Hostels (SJH) and TCS Camping were mixed. While the Swiss Youth Hostels achieved a pleasing result, bookings at BnB Switzerland were only "satisfactory". Although turnover at Reka increased, reservations and the number of overnight stays fell. Turnover at Interhome also declined.

Better summer

Meanwhile, expectations for the summer in the parahotel industry are higher than last year. Reka and Interhome are expecting a significantly better summer season than last year. The Swiss Youth Hostels are expecting a slight increase on the previous half-year.

However, the level of bookings at TCS Camping is roughly on a par with the very good 2023 summer season. BnB Switzerland is also satisfied with the inquiries for summer 2024.

In general, the number of guests from abroad is increasing again. However, fewer tourists from Switzerland are to be expected, the report continues.
