The Swiss Confederation is planning to deliver machinery for clearing rubble and debris as well as fire-fighting equipment to Ukraine. The material, worth CHF 5.6 million, is to leave Switzerland in the next few days and be handed over to the Civil Defense of the Ministry of the Interior of Ukraine.
The Federal Department of Defense, Civil Protection and Sport (DDPS) donated 30 machines for clearing rubble and 30 pumps for firefighting, as announced by the Federal Department of Foreign Affairs (FDFA) on Friday. In Ukraine, rubble and debris from destroyed buildings would make it impossible for rescue vehicles to pass through.
The transport of the relief supplies is being organized and financed by the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation (SDC). A train has been hired for this purpose. The transportation will take several days.
The same technical equipment had already been delivered in October 2022. According to the communiqué, Switzerland's commitment to Ukraine since the outbreak of war in February 2022 amounts to CHF 477 million.
