The Swiss Armed Forces are to cooperate with the Luxembourg military in training and exercise matters. The Federal Council has approved a corresponding agreement on bilateral cooperation with Luxembourg.
Luxembourg has advanced capabilities, particularly in the areas of cyber defense and the use of space, the national government announced on Wednesday. In return, Luxembourg could take advantage of training opportunities in Switzerland, such as the Swiss Armed Forces' cyber training course.
The Federal Council cites factors such as technological progress, its own limited resources, the exchange of experience and a review of its own level of training as reasons for such cooperation. In addition, the issue of interoperability with partner countries plays an important role for Luxembourg as a small country.
Switzerland already has corresponding agreements for military training with a number of other countries. According to the communiqué, these agreements are in line with neutrality and can be terminated by Switzerland at any time.
