In Switzerland, eleven applications have been received to date for removal from the sanctions list in connection with the war in Ukraine. Ten of these are currently pending, the responsible economic department told the Keystone-SDA news agency on Friday.

One person has been removed from the sanctions list, according to the Department of Economic Affairs, Education and Research (EAER). The deletion was made after the person was removed from the European Union (EU) sanctions list. The legal basis had therefore ceased to exist.

A similar case is now likely to arise again: On Wednesday, the EU court in Luxembourg overturned EU sanction decisions against Russian nationals Mikhail Fridman and Pyotr Aven. The two men are also on Switzerland's sanctions list. However, the ruling is not yet legally binding.

According to information on the website of the State Secretariat for Economic Affairs (SECO), a total of 1703 individuals and 421 companies are on the Swiss sanctions list in connection with the situation in Ukraine. They can submit a request to the EAER to be removed from the lists.

The processing of such applications is legally complex and very time-consuming. As a rule, it takes several months, according to the EAER.
