Switzerland plans peace conference on Ukraine conflict

At a media conference on Monday, President Viola Amherd expressed her solidarity with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky. Switzerland wants to organize a peace conference and support the reconstruction of Ukraine.
Switzerland wants to continue to work for a just and lasting peace in Ukraine, Amherd said on Monday at the Lohn estate in Kehrsatz BE.
According to the President of the Swiss Confederation, the details of a possible peace conference still need to be examined in depth. The Federal Department of Foreign Affairs (FDFA) would have the leading role in the organization.
Switzerland also wants to focus on the reconstruction of Ukraine. This is of strategic importance for the stability of the continent. The Lugano Principles of the Ukraine Recovery Conference (URC2022) of July 2022 serve as a political compass for reconstruction. Switzerland has earmarked 1.5 billion as part of its international cooperation until 2028.
Mine clearance is also central to this. A country without mines is the prerequisite for people to return and for agriculture to be possible again, said the President.
