The aid organization Terre des hommes recorded a decline in donations in 2023. The wars in Ukraine and the Gaza Strip are drawing attention away from the project countries, the organization concludes in its annual report. Nevertheless, the aid organization supported over 370,000 young people in Africa, Latin America and Switzerland.

In 2023, crises and conflicts would have increased the suffering caused by hunger and poverty, Terre des hommes announced on Thursday. Strong international cooperation would actually be required. Nevertheless, the Federal Council wants to provide less money for the South and invest in the army, criticized the children's aid organization.

Hardly ever have times been as bad for international cooperation as in 2023. As an attractive location for commodity companies and the financial market, Switzerland has the means to make a significant contribution.

According to the information provided, Terre des hommes received 6.2 million francs in donations and legacies in the reporting year. Total income amounted to 8.8 million francs. In 2022, the figure was 11.7 million francs. Global crises such as the wars in Ukraine and Gaza are diverting attention and resources away from Terre des hommes project countries, the organization wrote.

Despite its limited resources, Terre des hommes supported 373,000 young people, 59 percent of whom were young women. Its activities focused on the topics of peace culture, sustainable livelihoods and sexual and reproductive health and rights.
