Test of patience for travelers returning from the driveway weekend

At the end of the weekend, return traffic caused a long traffic jam in front of the Gotthard road tunnel on Sunday morning. At around 10.00 a.m., vehicles were jammed for nine kilometers in front of the south portal.
This meant that drivers on the Gotthard took around an hour and thirty minutes longer than usual to get to the section of highway between Faido and Airolo in Ticino, as the Touring Club of Switzerland (TCS) announced on Twitter. The traffic jam had grown rapidly in the morning.
The first wave of return journeys after the extended driveway weekend had already begun on Saturday morning. During the day, a traffic jam up to twelve kilometers long formed in front of the south portal. The waiting time was two hours. The big wave of return journeys is expected on Sunday.
