On Sunday afternoon, cars had queued up for nine kilometres in front of the Gotthard North Portal. The tunnel had been closed in both directions due to a breakdown vehicle. The queue had started to form on the A2 motorway in front of the tunnel from 9am, initially only one kilometre long, according to the Swiss Touring Club (TCS). By midday, the queue had grown to nine kilometres due to the tunnel closure between Erstfeld and Göschenen in the canton of Uri, with waiting times of more than an hour and a half. On Saturday, there had also been significant queues at the Gotthard, with a maximum length of 13 kilometres southbound and eight kilometres northbound.nnnn
