A petition on the case of Fabienne W. has been submitted to the Schaffhausen Cantonal Council. The petition calls for a complete investigation into the case of the 43-year-old Schaffhausen woman, who was brutally beaten up by several men around two and a half years ago.
Schaffhausen Cantonal Council President Erich Schudel (SVP) accepted the petition with around 10,000 online signatures on Monday afternoon. In addition to Fabienne W., several dozen sympathizers were present at the handover in front of the Schaffhausen government building.
The petition called for a full investigation into the actions of the Schaffhausen law enforcement authorities in the case. Fabienne W. was attacked and injured by several men in the apartment of a Schaffhausen lawyer at the end of 2021. There is video footage of the incident from surveillance cameras in the apartment.
In an article in the "Rundschau", serious accusations were made against the Schaffhausen law enforcement authorities. The police had investigated the case unprofessionally.
Police work to be investigated
The Schaffhausen cantonal government rejected the allegations last week, but at the same time announced an external investigation into the work of the police in the case. According to the public prosecutor's office, the ongoing criminal investigation into the case is to be concluded "promptly".
The "Rundschau" report led to a rally of several hundred people in Schaffhausen a few days after it was broadcast. The police were the focus of criticism.
The reporting of the "Rundschau" has also been criticized in the meantime. Last week, the local weekly newspaper "Schaffhauser AZ" described the incident differently to the "Rundschau" in a number of respects, based on hours of video footage from the apartment.
