The Swiss Federal Council has proposed a revised CO2 law to help the country reach its goal of net zero emissions by 2050 and secure energy supply. The Council wants to halve emissions by 2030 compared to 1990 levels. The Council's proposal includes incentives to encourage the public to take action on climate change, rather than relying on bans. The Council's proposal was approved by the Council of States with some modifications. The Council of States wants new cars registered from 2030 to emit 45% less greenhouse gases than those registered in 2021. It also wants to reduce the amount of money allocated to the building program from the CO2 tax. Additionally, it does not support the use of federal funds to install charging stations in multi-family homes and businesses. Now, the National Council will consider the proposal. If approved, the revised CO2 law will help the country reach its goal of net zero emissions by 2050 and secure energy supply.
