The e-bike manufacturer Flyer in Huttwil, Bern, is apparently facing a major restructuring. As "Blick" reported on Wednesday (today), the German parent company ZEG has initiated the consultation process. The majority of the 170 employees are threatened with redundancy.

The owner ZEG is considering reducing the management of Flyer to a minimum and outsourcing production, writes "Blick" with reference to a statement from ZEG, which is available to the newspaper. This is the company's response to the "difficult market situation in the bicycle industry", it says.

As part of the planned restructuring, "the redundancy of large parts of the current workforce is being examined", the press release continues according to "Blick". "SRF" reports 155 planned redundancies, citing an internal source.

ZEG did not provide any further information at AWP's request and referred to an e-mail address of Flyer that is no longer in operation. No one could be reached at Flyer.

The Canton of Bern's Department of Economic Affairs, Energy and the Environment stated that it had been informed in advance of the changes in Huttwil by Flyer. An information event for employees will be held on Wednesday, said an official spokesperson when asked by the news agency AWP. However, he did not want to say how many jobs were affected. He was not allowed to do so for legal reasons.
