From October 1st, more eggs intended for consumption will be imported into Switzerland in order to ensure the supply of eggs for the next few months. The import quota for consumption eggs will be increased by 31%, or 5500 tonnes, to 22,928 tonnes, with a reserve included. This increase in the partial duty quota is valid until the end of the year. The demand for eggs has been exceptionally high due to changed consumption habits in 2020 and 2021, although Swiss production has also increased to record levels in 2021. However, production has decreased slightly in the current year. In 2022, Swiss people consumed an average of 186 eggs per person, which is nine eggs less than the previous year, but still two more than in 2019.nnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnn
