The highest amounts of precipitation were recorded in Graubünden

With 125 millimetres of rain, Grono in the canton of Grisons has recorded the highest amount of precipitation in the last 24 hours. According to Meteonews, Graubünden also recorded more lightning discharges than any other canton, with 7043.

In Grono GR, 154 millimetres of rain fell in an average June, as reported by Meteonews Switzerland via X on Saturday morning. High rainfall was also recorded at other measuring stations in the canton of Graubünden. On the San Bernardino, 80.2 millimetres of rain were measured between eight o'clock on Friday morning and eight o'clock on Saturday morning. In Chur and Ilanz, the precipitation amounts were 48.8 and 47.7 millimetres respectively.

According to Meteonews Switzerland, several of the 15 measuring stations that recorded the highest amounts of precipitation were in the canton of Ticino. In Piotta, the values were 53 millimetres and at the Faido measuring station 36.6 millimetres. In addition, lightning was recorded over the canton of Ticino in 2006, the second most in Switzerland.

High amounts of rain were also recorded at measuring stations in Valais. According to Meteonews Switzerland, one measurement near Zermatt, for example, recorded 30.1 millimetres of rain within 24 hours. Meanwhile, 1070 lightning flashes were recorded in Valais.

Rain and thunderstorms forecast again

In the canton of Valais and the southern Graubünden valley of Misox, the heavy rainfall caused severe weather damage.

Metonews Switzerland is forecasting partly sunny weather for Valais on Saturday morning. Local thunderstorms could occur again later in the day. Heavy downpours are forecast for the canton of Graubünden on Saturday afternoon. Local thunderstorms are possible.
