In the past two weeks, Switzerland has seen an increase in anti-Semitic incidents. The Swiss Israelite Community (SIG) registered 26 incidents and is concerned about this trend. The Jewish community in Switzerland has been increasingly targeted due to the escalation in the Middle East. Since October 7, an average of two incidents have been reported per day, according to SIG General Secretary Jonathan Kreutner. This is a significant increase compared to the 57 incidents reported in the whole of 2022. Several media outlets have reported on the rising number of anti-Semitic acts in Switzerland. SIG does not count anti-Semitic statements on the internet or incidents in the Romandie region as part of their investigation.
The recent increase in anti-Semitic incidents in Switzerland is concerning. The Jewish community is particularly vulnerable due to the escalation in the Middle East. SIG is monitoring the situation and has reported an average of two incidents per day since October 7. The number of incidents reported in the whole of 2022 was 57, which is significantly higher than the number reported in the past two weeks. It is important that the Swiss government takes steps to protect the Jewish community and to ensure that anti-Semitic acts are not tolerated.
