The "Neue Zürcher Zeitung" (NZZ) comments on the rejection of the two health initiatives as follows:
"French-speaking Switzerland has now also easily waved through the premium initiative (the costs of which could be attributed disproportionately to German-speaking Switzerland) - with almost 62% of votes in favor. However, resistance in German-speaking Switzerland ultimately led to a national No majority. This turned out to be surprisingly clear at 55.5 percent.(...) Meanwhile, the people's "no" to the center party's cost-brake initiative is no great surprise. However, the extent of the No vote, at almost 63%, is also surprising here. (...) The initiators only have to be successful once, and then a decided expansion is de facto anchored until the downfall of the West. It would not be surprising if the old dreams of the left were to gain a majority in the medium term: a single state health insurance fund and a system with income-related premiums. (...)"
