The online portal Watson comments on Beat Jans' election to the Federal Council as follows:
"Beat Jans is the favorite to succeed Alain Berset. However, the background noise is a foretaste of the battle for the second FDP seat. (...) Things will really get down to business the next time an FDP seat becomes vacant. Because the diagnosis of the SP and the Greens is correct: the SVP and FDP's Federal Council majority no longer has any basis, neither in the population nor in parliament. A tough battle is looming, as the Greens want the seat and the centrists are flirting with it. The Liberals, on the other hand, will hardly give way without a fight, which is why the Green Liberals are likely to play a key role. But that is a long way off. The FDP will fervently hope that [Ignazio] Cassis and KKS [Karin Keller-Sutter] will 'hold out' for at least another four years. But the big bang will come."
