The flood situation on the Rhine near Basel calmed down again on Friday afternoon. Restrictions on shipping have been lifted accordingly, as confirmed by the Swiss Rhine ports at the request of the Keystone-SDA news agency.

The "Basel-Rheinhalle" water level fell below 790 centimetres on Friday afternoon. This puts it below the high water mark IIb, according to the water level display on the website of the Swiss Rhine ports.

This means that the Rhine between the Mittlere Brücke bridge in Basel and Birsfelden is no longer closed to large ships. Small ships are also allowed to sail again between Basel and Rheinfelden AG. The ferries in Basel are also operating again.
