On Saturday, hundreds of thousands of people celebrated and danced at the 30th Street Parade in Zurich. For the first time ever, Swiss President Alain Berset (SP) joined the partygoers, wearing a hat, sunglasses and a feather boa. The event, which began as a dance demonstration in 1992, has become a major festival. The booming bass, sometimes outrageous or very skimpy outfits and cheerful atmosphere were again the hallmark of the world's largest techno party. Berset met with Joel Meier, president of the Street Parade Association, and Marek Krynski, founder of the event, at the Hotel Baur au Lac in Zurich. In an article for the "Tages-Anzeiger", Berset praised the importance of the event, noting that Zurich has played an important role in the history of techno alongside Berlin. The music was played on the Lovemobiles and stages along the route until midnight. After that, people continued to dance at dozens of parties in Zurich clubs. The Zurich security and rescue forces were on high alert. The festival grounds were closed to traffic and public transport was severely restricted. By 8:30 pm, eleven people had been arrested, mostly for theft and drug offenses. The police also arrested eight people at the main train station, mostly for theft or drug trafficking. To reduce the amount of waste, deposits were required for PET bottles and cans at the official food stands. It was not yet clear whether the measures had the desired effect, as there was still a lot of litter on the ground and many waste bins were already full by late afternoon.nnnnnnnn
