President Alain Berset (SP) expressed his sympathy after the severe earthquake in Morocco. On the short message service X, formerly Twitter, he wrote on Saturday morning that Switzerland was in solidarity with Morocco. "Our thoughts are with the Moroccans affected by this terrible earthquake," tweeted Berset. The Swiss Federal Department of Foreign Affairs (EDA) is currently examining an offer of assistance to the country. The crisis team was activated in the early hours of Saturday. Other heads of state and government have also reacted to the earthquake and expressed their sympathy to those affected in Morocco. These include Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, French President Emmanuel Macron, German Chancellor Olaf Scholz, Giorgia Meloni from Italy, EU Council President Charles Michel and EU Commission President Ursula von der Leyen. A severe earthquake shook Morocco in the early hours of Saturday. The earthquake of magnitude 6.8 to 6.9, about 70 kilometers southwest of Marrakech and 60 kilometers northeast of the city of Taroudant, has so far killed at least 632 people.
