There are no cantonal elections in French-speaking Switzerland next year. On the other hand, there will be municipal elections in the cantons of Valais in October and Neuchâtel in April, and the municipal authorities in the bilingual city of Biel will also be reappointed in September. However, there are also a number of important cantonal votes.

On September 22, the cantons of Bern and Jura will vote on the concordat that defines the modalities of the change of canton from Moutier to Jura. Before the vote, the text must be approved by the Jura parliament and the Grand Council of the Canton of Bern in the spring.

In Valais, the new constitution, which is to replace the 1907 constitution, will be put to the vote on March 3. The population will also decide whether voting rights for foreigners will be introduced at municipal level.

In the canton of Geneva, a decision on assisted suicide is to be made on a date yet to be set. After parliament decided to repeal a legal provision that obliges hospitals and nursing homes to allow assisted suicide under certain conditions, Exit launched a referendum.

On 3 March, the canton of Fribourg will vote on the recapitalization of the Fribourg transport company to the tune of CHF 60 million. On June 9, the initiative "For a 24-hour hospital emergency close to home" will be put to the vote and a decision on the strategy for digital education is expected in the second half of the year.

No important cantonal votes are scheduled in the cantons of Vaud and Neuchâtel. However, the municipalities of Neuchâtel will elect their authorities on April 21. Municipal elections will be held in October in Valais and on September 22 in the city of Biel.
