Several incumbent National and Council of States members have been punished by the electorate, failing to be re-elected despite running again. Mustafa Atici (NR, BS) of the SP party lost his seat as the Basel delegation was reduced to four seats. Philippe Bauer (SR, NE) of the FDP was replaced by the former National Council member Baptiste Hurni (SP). Judith Bellaiche (NR, ZH) of the Grünliberalen failed to be re-elected due to seat losses in her party. Thomas Bläsi (NR, GE) of the SVP did not benefit from the vote increase in his party, losing to Charles Poncet. Jörg Mäder (NR, ZH) of the Grünliberalen also failed to be re-elected due to vote losses in his party. Michel Matter (NR, GE) of the Grünliberalen and president of the cantonal GLP was not re-elected due to vote losses in his party and the return of the protest party MCG to the National Council. Isabelle Pasquier-Eichenberger (NR, GE) of the Greens lost her seat due to vote losses in her party. Francois Pointet (NR, VD) of the Grünliberalen was a victim of seat losses in his party. Stefanie Prezioso Batou (NR, GE) of the Greens also lost her seat due to vote losses in her party. Valentine Python (NR, VD) of the Greens was a victim of the loss of the fourth seat in her party. Othmar Reichmuth (SR, SZ) of the Mitte was replaced by the former FDP president and National Council member Petra Gössi. Denis de la Reusille (NR, NE) of the Partei der Arbeit (PdA) was the only National Council member of his party to lose his seat due to the success of the SVP. Therese Schläpfer (NR, ZH) of the SVP failed to be re-elected due to vote losses in her party. Meret Schneider (NR, ZH) of the Greens lost her seat due to vote losses in her party. Ursula Schneider Schüttel (NR, FR) of the SP lost her seat to the SVP, who regained their second seat in the canton after four years. In total, fourteen incumbent National and Council of States members failed to be re-elected due to vote losses in their respective parties.
