Third-highest precipitation value since measurements began in Magadino TI

In Magadino TI, 37.1 millimetres of rain fell in ten minutes during thunderstorms on Friday. This was the third-highest value in Switzerland since measurements began, according to the federal government.

The wind swept over the municipality of Magadino near Locarno at 106 kilometers per hour, as the Federal Office of Meteorology and Climatology (MeteoSwiss) reported on the X platform on Saturday night.

Wind speeds of 116 kilometers per hour were measured on Monte Generoso, as the MeteoSwiss graphic shows. Wind speeds of 118 kilometers per hour or more are considered a hurricane. Wind peaks of over 100 kilometers per hour were also measured on La Dôle VD and Moléson FR in addition to Ticino.

The federal government had been warning of thunderstorms since Thursday. It predicted a risk of thunderstorms until Sunday night.
