Thousands of anarchists from around the world gathered in St-Imier BE for the international anti-authoritarian meeting. The president of the Bernese Jura municipality welcomed the participants warmly on Saturday. On Friday night, 4200 meals were served to the attendees. The population of the 5200-inhabitant clock town has almost doubled since the opening of the meeting on Wednesday. The event is offering 300 activities, such as lectures, concerts, films, exhibitions and a book fair. The main goal of the meeting is to exchange ideas, spread awareness of struggles, strengthen relationships and convince others to join the movement. The total cost of the event is estimated to be around 200,000 Swiss francs. The meeting is a commemoration of the 150th anniversary of the Anti-Authoritarian International, which was founded in the Bernese Jura municipality in September 1872. The anniversary celebration was postponed by one year due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
