On Thursday, thousands of pupils accompanied their parents to work or gained an insight into the world of work through special projects to mark National Future Day. More than 2500 companies and educational institutions opened their doors for the event.
According to the organizers, Future Day has now become a well-known event. For 24 years, the event has been showing young people career prospects and motivating them to make independent life choices.
At SBB alone, around 1500 children had the opportunity to take a look behind the scenes, according to the railroad company. The Future Day is also an opportunity for SBB to arouse the interest of the younger generations in rail professions.
The Keystone-SDA news agency offered twelve children the opportunity to gain an insight into the work of the company. Among other things, the participants were able to get to know the Federal Palace media center from the inside. The texts, photos and videos of the young reporters were continuously published in a live blog and on Instagram.
The main aim of Future Day is to break down gender stereotypes in career choices and counteract the shortage of skilled workers. In special projects, for example, girls were able to find out about careers in IT and boys about healthcare professions, as the organizations wrote in a press release in advance.
The Future Day is a project of the gender equality offices of several cantons, the cities of Bern, Lucerne and Zurich and the Principality of Liechtenstein. The State Secretariat for Education, Research and Innovation supports the Future Day financially.
