The canton of Ticino has been awarded the "Cercle Régional" prize for the second time at the "Alp'24" forum in Stans NW. The Federal Office for Agriculture and the State Secretariat for Economic Affairs awarded the prize for strong regional value chains, as they announced on Friday.

The winner was chosen by an external jury. For the 2024 edition, it assessed numerous projects for regional development, including a "Genuss-Strasse" in the canton of Aargau and a charter for Fribourg's community gastronomy for a balanced and regional diet.

The Ticino project "Ticino a Te" was chosen. According to the information provided, this network for agricultural products links value creation from production to distribution and sales. The system was launched by the Ticino Competence Center for Agricultural Products.

Together with restaurants, it is working on the "Ticino a Tavola" project to ensure that menus include at least one menu with three or four courses or dishes with up to 60 percent Ticino ingredients. On the one hand, "Ticino a Te" is a virtual network for agricultural products and shows who produces what and where. On the other hand, the project also maintains a physical network of stores.

The international "Alp'24" conference in Stans in the canton of Nidwalden focused on the topic of regional products as drivers of sustainable development in the Alps. The award ceremony concluded the event.
