Traffic at Geneva Airport was interrupted for an indefinite period on Wednesday evening. The reason was a private plane that went off the runway and got stuck in the grass. The runway was closed to evacuate the plane. No one was injured.

This was confirmed by airport spokesman Ignace Jeannerat in a report by "20 Minutes". According to the airport's website, no flights have taken off or landed since around 5.30 pm.

Almost 100 flights were affected by the incident until after 9.00 pm. Most of the planes that were due to take off from Geneva were canceled, while the planes that were due to land were diverted to other airports, canceled or further delayed.

No information was displayed for most flights scheduled to land after 21:00. When flight operations will resume should only be communicated later in the evening.
