Train driver’s behavior during hostage-taking praised

During the hostage-taking on a train in the canton of Vaud on Thursday evening, the train driver was in contact with his direct superior. "According to the feedback we have, he behaved in an exemplary manner," says Daniel Reymond, director of the regional rail company Travys.
"According to our information, he interacted with the hostage-taker and helped to calm the situation," Reymond told the Keystone-SDA news agency on Friday. "He was also in contact with the head of the train drivers who went to Essert-sous-Champvent, where the train was blocked."
The police needed information, particularly about access to the train. Like the other hostages, the train driver received psychological treatment after his release. He was then questioned by the police.
After the operation, the regional train was confiscated and then taken to the depot. The company handed over the video surveillance of the carriage and several stations along the route to the investigators.
On Thursday, train services were interrupted from 18:30 until the end of service. Replacement buses were in operation. On Friday morning, train services on the Yverdon-Ste-Croix line resumed as normal.
The train was slightly damaged when it was stormed by the security forces. "We have not yet been able to carry out an analysis, but at first glance the damage is relatively minor," added Reymond.
