On Friday morning, the Rhaetian Railway (RhB) route between Zernez and Chiuos-chel-Brail GR was interrupted due to a rockfall. During overnight tunnel construction work, larger rock masses had become detached. Passengers had to expect delays and cancellations. Currently, the Brailtunnel ll on this route is being enlarged, as RhB spokesperson Yvonne Dünser explained to the news agency Keystone-SDA. During the breakout work in the night of Friday, more material had become detached than planned. At the tunnel portal, a rock slab fell onto the railway track. The construction work was interrupted. No people were injured. Only the construction machines had some dents, according to Dünser. In order to find out how stable the rock masses on the tunnel ceiling are, geologists must assess the situation on site. The train route will remain closed until the ceiling is sufficiently secured. Passengers between Samedan and Zernez had to expect train cancellations and delays. Replacement buses were in operation.
