Austrian customs officers stopped a van carrying high-quality e-bikes and bicycles shortly after the Swiss border. The driver wanted to enter Austria from Switzerland. At least some of the bicycles had been reported stolen in Switzerland.
As reported by the Austrian police, customs officers found 27 e-bikes and bicycles, some of them high-quality, with a total value of 60,000 to 70,000 euros in the hold. Customs stopped the 35-year-old driver and his 43-year-old co-driver on Thursday evening immediately after crossing the border at Höchst in Vorarlberg.
The two men were provisionally arrested and questioned by the police. On the instructions of the public prosecutor's office, the men, about whom no further details were given, were released on Friday. Further investigations into the origin of the luxury bikes are still underway, according to the police.
