As expected, the incumbents are clearly in the lead in the government council elections in the canton of Schwyz after counting in half of the 30 municipalities. This means that Schwyz is likely to continue to be governed by a purely conservative government in the next legislature.
The seven incumbent councillors were all standing for re-election. At 2 p.m., the three SVP members André Rüeggsegger, Herbert Huwiler and Xaver Schuler were in the lead. They were followed by Damian Meier and Petra Steimen (both FDP) as well as Sandro Patierno and Michael Stähli (center). They received between 11,242 and 9615 votes.
The non-party member Peter Abegg (5368 votes) and Jonathan Prelicz (SP; 4519 votes) received only around half as many votes as the incumbents.
