Bernese National Councillor Aline Trede (Greens) and Vaud cantonal president Christelle Luisier Brodard (FDP) are to be elected to the central board of the Swiss Football Association on Friday. They are the only candidates.
Trede and Luisier Brodard will become the first women on the executive body of Swiss football following their election at the delegates' meeting, which was considered a certainty. The current Board of Directors consists of seven men. The President of the Swiss Football Association (SFA) is Dominique Blanc.
Last year, the SFA decided to expand the board to nine members. Two seats are reserved for independent members - with the intention of opening up the board to women.
When the two candidates were presented in May, the SFA wrote that Trede and Luisier Brodard had worked hard with regard to the European Women's Football Championship in Switzerland. On the central board, they will continue to work for the sustainability of women's and girls' football in Switzerland and the necessary structural adjustments.
The football association wants to double the number of active female footballers from the current 40,000 to 80,000 over the next four years, as head of information Adrian Arnold told the Keystone-SDA news agency on request.
The SFA is the umbrella organization of national football. Founded in 1895, it is now one of the most important sports associations in the country. It currently has 1389 clubs, 14,206 teams and 273,644 licensed players. The association is based in Muri BE.
